Help us to be there to support mental wellbeing
The Kingston Mental Health Parliament is an Independent Collective Advocacy movement designed and implemented by Service Users / Ex Service Users of the Royal Borough of Kingston (Currently operating under, and supported by, Mind In Kingston).
Mind in Kingston’s Service User Involvement Service has been pro-active in combating stigma and giving service users a real voice in the borough. The Service User Involvement Officers and the CEO have ensured that services users' views are represented at all Kingston borough and Mental Health strategic planning.
The planning and development of a Mental Health Parliament goes back a long way. Planning and research has been key. We are proud and grateful to the dedicated steering group of five members who laid the foundations for the aims and objectives, responsibilities and voting.
We are keen to keep the group as independent as possible so that it is not used as a consulting tool for service providers.
We aim to improve the experiences of mental health service users and carers and their interactions and treatment in their community. This could be issues with the CMHT, GPs or even your a local newsagent. It is not up to the parliament to decide what it addresses but those that use our service and the issues they bring. However, it does not provide individual advocacy or support; instead it is able to signpost to the most appropriate resource or service.
We provide a monthly drop in service and everyone is welcome to use this service. We are here the first Wednesday of each month, to provide advice, support, information and a listening ear around issues or concerns, you may have with the Mental Health services or any other service provided within the borough.
People have been visiting the drop in service and raising a range of different issues and concerns they have around Mental Health.
