Supporting People

Our Supporting People service supports individuals to live independently in the community.

This comprises a number of different options including shared homes and individual accommodation. Our partners are registered social landlords.

User Involvement Services    [back to top]

This encompasses several different aspects of service users' inclusion in the decision making process.

A free quarterly newsletter is posted to all interested parties and is also available at a comprehensive range of locations across the borough. Articles are contributed by the voluntary, statutory and private sectors. The focus is on services provided for service users and carers.

Regular forums for discussion are provided on wards, day centres, drop-in cafes and public venues.

In addition to this, our Service User Involvement Worker sits on a variety of panels in the borough. We encourage service users to be involved in this process and offer support.

Mental Health Awareness (MHA) Training    [back to top]

We provide MHA training to people who work with or come into contact with the public. Whilst they may not specifically work in the mental health field, it is helpful that they have some understanding of the issues faced by those experiencing mental distress.

We offer this training free of charge as we are aware that smaller organisations or individuals may not be able to afford such a valauble resource.

Acute Recreation Service    [back to top]

Our team provides recreational activities on the wards at Tolworth Hospital in the evnings and at weekends when staffing levels are lower and there is less structured occupation.

Outreach Information Stall    [back to top]

The stall is set up at various locations in the borough and distributes booklets to the public.

Drop-In Cafés    [back to top]

We have two drop-in cafés: the Bridge and the Star. They offer subsidised meals, low level support and promote social inclusion. The cafés are open in the evening and at weekends when other non-crisis services are closed.

Mental Health Information Centre    [back to top]

The Information Centre welcomes anyone who would like to find out more about mental health and related areas. Our resources include books, journals, leaflets, booklets, teaching packs, videos and Internet access. This service is free and is situated in the Mind in Kingston office in Siddeley House. Please phone to confirm opening hours.

Small Grants Scheme    [back to top]

Small grants are available through Mind in Kingston up to a maximum of £100 per person per year. These grants must be applied for through the individual's Care Co-ordinator.

'Sample This' Music Project    [back to top]

Mind in Kingston are involved in the management of the 'Sample This' Music Project in partnership with South West London & St. George's Mental Health NHS Trust and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

The project is aimed at using music as a means of engaging young service users who are not involved with mainstream mental health services. Through this project a band has developed and they perform on a regular basis. The project provides enjoyment, positive roles, social networking, and confidence to its members. The project is accessible by referral only.

'A3 Milan' Football Team    [back to top]

The football team has links with Fulham Football Club and is affiliated to the Football Association. It offers the possibility to play in a London wide mental health football league and access to train as a referee, coach or manager.
